The Town of Redding Assessor’s primary objective is to ensure that all taxable property located within the Town is assessed in accordance with applicable law so that every property owner bears an appropriate share of the total property tax burden. To accomplish this objective, our office must discover, list, and equitably value all property within the Town of Redding. In addition, our office is also responsible for the administration of various forms of tax relief.

The result of these efforts is the Grand List: a record of all taxable and exempt property in the Town of Redding.

Property is always assessed as of October 1. Three classes of property are subject to taxation: real estate, motor vehicle, and business personal property. Real estate includes land and improvements that are permanently affixed to the land. Motor vehicles are any vehicles registered to the Town of Redding between October 1 and September 30 of any given year. Personal property is all property not classified as real property, including machinery, equipment, furniture, fixtures, unregistered motor vehicles, and farming tools. Personal property owned by business entities is taxable in the State of Connecticut.

Property is taxed on an ‘ad valorem’ basis, which means ‘at value’. All property is taxed at 70% of fair market value as of October 1 of any given year. Should you have any questions, please call 203-938-2626.
