Heritage Center
The Heritage Center is Redding’s senior center, part of Redding’s Community Center and located behind Redding Elementary School. The Heritage Center’s mission is to provide community seniors with a friendly environment to participate in cultural, social, artistic, and wellness activities.
Current Classes and Programs

Fitness Classes:
- Barre: Exercises include ballet moves (such as pliés), light weights, and planks. Low-impact, repetitive movements are meant to get the muscles to fatigue.
- Cardio Dance: Sensei June Fagan leads a dance workout to raise the heart rate and have some fun.
- Essentrics: A dynamic, low-impact strength and stretch class focusing on form, alignment, agility, mobility, muscle imbalances, and pain-free movement.
- Gentle Yoga: Students work at their level with modifications and challenging variations, in a small class accommodating personal preferences.
- Tai Chi / Qi Gong: Sensei June Fagan teaches two class levels. They start with meditative Qi Gong, followed by an active martial art. This mind-body practice is “meditation in motion.” Benefits include improved balance and preventing health problems.
- Tai Ji Quan Continued: Moving for Better Balance: A balance class designed for fall prevention, perfect for those with balance concerns.
- Strength Training: Led by Heather Massimo, students use bands, weights, and a step to build muscle and work on balance. Improve agility while keeping your heart rate at a moderate pace. (This class is scheduled in sessions, not on an ongoing basis.)
Mind & Art Classes:
- Clay: Instructor Ruth Moran teaches basic forms to create various items using a kiln and beautiful glazes.
- Drawing Basics: The ideal start to art. Learn skills with our expert teacher, Laura McCormick who provides an arsenal of helpful tools and tricks.
- Italian: Edda Gusman teaches classes for beginner, continuing beginner, pre-intermediate, and intermediate levels.
- Spanish: An Intermediate class is taught by lively instructor Karen Loker. The first hour is conversation, followed by a grammar lesson.
- Sketch, Paint, Create: A self-directed class for artists seeking to improve in their medium of choice.
- Ukulele (Intermediate or Beginner): Wendy Matthews teaches two levels. Both require some experience.
Free Programs:
- Bridge: Join this friendly group for mental stimulation and competition; lessons available.
- Canasta: A rummy-family card game for 2-4 players.
- Discussion Group: A weekly talk on a focused cultural or news topic.
- French Conversation: Group-directed, best for those comfortable speaking at an intermediate level.
- Beginner Pickleball: Geared toward beginners, this indoor class is a great introduction to the paddle sport.
- Mah Jongg: A tile-based game popularized in China, played with 3-4 players.
- Meditation: A monthly group meets virtually, led by expert Dev Patel.
- Quilting: A supportive group for learning and encouragement in quilting, with assistance often available.
- Tech Help: Currently run by a volunteer high school student, available for those that need personal assistance with their devices.
