Weather Message from Office of First Selectwoman-Sunday, February 22, 2206

Good afternoon, Redding,

We are preparing for a major storm expected to bring up to 24 inches of heavy, wet snow and wind gusts of up to 50 mph.

Please stay off the roads for the duration of the storm. The Redding Highway Department will be out clearing roadways, but snowfall rates may be high, and roads will remain snow-covered despite their efforts. You don’t want to be the person stuck on Cross Highway.

All vehicles must be removed from public roadways to allow Public Works crews to fully clear and treat the streets.

This storm is also likely to cause tree and utility line damage, which may lead to power outages. If you lose power, please report it to Eversource at 203-286-2000. If outages are widespread, restoration times may be extended. Be prepared. The Town will open warming centers if necessary.

Governor Ned Lamont has declared a State of Emergency in Connecticut beginning Sunday evening, February 22, 2026, and continuing through Monday, February 23, 2026. An emergency order is also in effect prohibiting commercial vehicles from traveling on all limited-access highways statewide beginning at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday. This includes trucks, tractor-trailers, tankers, RVs, and vehicles with trailers. The Governor’s Office will issue notice when the restriction is lifted.

Redding Municipal Offices, the Community Center, and the Transfer Station will be closed during the storm on Monday. Employees will work remotely. Many services are available online at Reddingct.gov.

Redding Public Schools will also be closed on Monday.

Public safety personnel are on duty and prepared to respond to calls for assistance. For emergencies, call 911. For non-emergency matters, contact the Dispatch Center at 203-938-3400.

Be safe and enjoy the snow. We will provide updates as conditions warrant.

Thank you!

Best regards,

Julia Pemberton. First Selectwoman
